Yung Miami (born February 11, 1994), real name Caresha Romeka Brownlee, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. 

She is best known for being a member of the hip-hop duo City Girls member, along with her friend and fellow rapper Jatavia Shakara Johnson (JT). The duo rose to fame with their single viral Twerk, which was released in 2018.

Yung Miami has been praised for her strong work ethic and contributions to the City Girls. In 2019, she was nominated for a BET Award for Best Rap Performance for her work on the City Girls‘ album, Period.

Early Life & Education

Caresha Romeka Brownlee, alias Yung Miami was born on February 11, 1994, in Miami, Florida, United States. She grew up in Opa-Locka. At 17, she performed in strip clubs, nightclubs, and block parties. 

Yung Miami said that she loved trap music from a young age and told Rolling Stone, “My little boyfriend used to take me to school every day, so I grew up listening to a lot of trap music.” She has a brother named Chrisey Pressley. She also has a sister.

She has a brother and a sister. Yung Miami is the daughter of Keenya Young (mother), but the identity of her father is unknown. She attended Carol City High School, a public Florida high school.

Personal Life

Yung Miami is not currently married. However, she has a child, Jai Malik Wiggins Jr., with her former boyfriend, Jai Wiggins. After Jai Wiggins assaulted her and committed multiple acts of domestic violence, the couple separated.

She began dating one of Atlanta’s top record producers, Joshua Howard Luellen, aka Southside, in December 2018. Still, the couple broke up and reunited after Southside bought Yung Miami a new Mercedes-Benz Class. She has a child with Southside, who they named Summer Miami Luellen.

And she announced her pregnancy on Instagram on June 11, 2019. She was shot as she left a Miami recording studio on August 6, 2019. The shooting comes after her ex, rapper Kodak Black, records a song from prison in which he refers to Yung Miami as pregnant with another rapper’s child.

Although neither Yung Miami nor her unborn child was injured, their vehicle was damaged by gunfire. And in October 2019, she had a daughter named Summer Miami Luellen. On June 15, 2020, Yung Miamipaid tribute to Jai Wiggins, who passed away in early June, with an Instagram collage of photos of his 6-year-old son.

She has dated Southside (record producer) (2018), Ball Greezy (2017-2018) and Jai Wiggins (2010-2015). Yung Miami is presently in a relationship with record producer Sean Combs also addressed as Diddy.

Career

Yung Miami met her first music partner, JT, through a mutual friend. The duo recorded their debut studio track, Fuck Dat Nigga, which was a diss track directed at their ex-boyfriends for not giving them money when they asked.

Yung Miami promoted it on social media and paid DJs to play it in clubs. The song features a prominent sample of fellow Florida rapper Khia‘s My Neck, My Back (Lick It), which quickly racked up hundreds of thousands of plays. The song’s official music video debuted in January 2018 and featured rapper Trina. Later that year, the song was included in Quality Control‘s compilation album, Control the Streets, Volume 1.

JT was arrested and charged with aggravated identity theft shortly after the release of Fuck Dat Nigga, and he was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison. The judge eventually agreed to postpone her surrender date. JT began her prison sentence in July 2018 and was expected to be freed on March 1, 2020. While JT was in prison, Yung Miami continued to promote the group’s music by saying: “When she was in jail, I would go to strip clubs and pay a DJ US$20 to play the song. It took off.”

After signing with Quality Control Music, the duo was named the most popular developing artists of the week, based on activity across the Billboard charts Hot 100, Social 50, and Billboard 200.

Period, the City Girls‘ debut mixtape was released in May 2018 and debuted at No. 16 on Heatseekers Albums the same month. The period was also ranked 26th on Rolling Stone’s list of the 30 Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2018.

The duo gained mainstream recognition in July 2018 after an uncredited feature on Drake‘s In My Feelings, with Yung Miami appearing in the music video. They released the documentary Point Blank Period in August 2018.
