Recognized as one of the most formidable marsupials within the realm of ARK Survival Ascended, the Thylacoleo, commonly known as Thyla, stands out as one of the premier creatures to tame in the game. Unfortunately, capturing one can pose a considerable challenge due to the creature's formidable strength and speed.

Fortunately, the process of taming a Thylacoleo can be significantly simplified by employing traps. If you're unfamiliar with trap construction, this guide is here to assist you. Within this guide, we'll provide detailed instructions on creating a user-friendly Thylacoleo trap in ARK Survival Ascended, allowing you to enlist this powerful feline companion in your endeavors.

As it currently stands, there are two methods or traps that you can use for catching a wild Thyla in ARK Survival Ascended. The first is a simple billboard trap, and the second is similar to our T-Rex trap, using pillars. Both methods employ large bear traps to stop the cat's movement and give you time to trap it. So, let's break down each method below.

Using a Billboard Trap to Catch a Thyla:

To set up this trap, as the name suggests, you'll need four billboards as well as a large bear trap. Once you have these items, you can set up two billboards facing each other wide enough apart for the Thyla to run through, with the large bear trap in the middle, as shown in the image below.

That's all there is to this trap, and all you need to do now is lure the Thyla into the trap. Once you have a Thyla on your tail, simply run through the trap and lead it onto the bear trap, which will stop its movement and allow you to place the last two billboards in front of it and behind it (make sure to disable snapping to make this easier).

Once trapped, you can now use your tranquilizers of choice to knock the beast out and feed it some of its desired taming food, which is either Kibble or any kind of meat since it's a carnivore. Once tamed, simply remove the trap, and you're set to ride out on your new Thyla.

However, we should note that this trap can be a bit riskier since the placement of the billboards can leave room for error, and the Thyla can easily escape and maul you to death if not set up correctly. So, let's take a look at the second method, which is a little bit safer.

Using a Pillar Trap to Catch a Thyla:

Similar to the T-Rex trap we mentioned earlier, this pillar trap first and foremost requires a flat surface to work correctly, so find flat ground to use or build some foundations that you want to lead the Thyla onto. Once you have that down, all you need are pillars (of any type) to set up the trap.

To begin construction, place a pillar down vertically, and then using the orientation button, flip the pillar horizontally to place another two on each side of the first pillar at a 90-degree angle. Then, extend these two sideways pillars with one more on one side (making it three pillars wide) and place two more extending forward from these two side pillars.

From there, you'll need to place the large bear trap on one side of the trap, as shown in the image above, as this is important to leading the Thyla into it. Once this is set up, you are once again ready to find a wild Thyla to trap.

Once the Thyla is running after you, run towards your trap to the side that doesn't have the bear trap, then turn to the direction of the bear trap, and run over it. Then crouch to crawl underneath the gap and out of the trap. Doing this will force the Thyla to run into your trap and then turn in the direction of the bear trap, which will then clamp down and trap it.

This is where the final step of the trap comes in. You'll now need to add two more pillars on the ends of the two sides we made earlier to trap the Thyla in the trap. You can connect the middle pillar if you want; however, it's not entirely necessary since the Thyla can't escape through a 1x1 pillar space.

Now that it's trapped, you can once again tranquilize it, feed it the desired food, and it will be all set to tame. And there you have it, two easy and simple trap methods that you can use to capture a Thylacoleo in ARK Survival Ascend.
